After Market

Market for various services such as repairs and maintenance that occur after the sale of the products.

In the used car industry, after market businesses include repairs, maintenance, parts installation, etc. after a used car is purchased.

Assessment Ability

Assessment ability means identifying the authenticity of a product or service.

In our group, we place great importance on assessment ability. Since used cars have different conditions for each vehicle, our purchasing staff need to be able to determine the vehicle conditions in a short time period, evaluate if it meets the standard of the customers requirement, and make a successful bid at an appropriate price. Assessment ability requires a high standard of specialist knowledge and experience.

BIO Inspection

This is a quarantine inspection that checks for soil, plants, and animal materials on the body of a used car before loading on to a shipping vessel. It derives from the term biosecurity.

CASE

CASE is an acronym derived from four key words that indicate future trends in the automotive industry. ‘Connected’ refers to the improvement in communication functions that impact safety, information, and in-car entertainment. ‘Autonomous’ refers to self-driving vehicles. ‘Shared & Service’ indicates a trend towards joint ownership and rent when needed offerings. ‘Electric’ refers to the increasing number of EV (electric vehicles) and hybrid vehicles. 

Compliance Centre

A service that performs advanced maintenance work to ready imported cars for a vehicle inspection.

Conflict of Interest

In our group, we have a company that conducts import inspection of used cars in New Zealand, plus a company that conducts export inspection of used cars to New Zealand. This could theoretically allow for a potential conflict of interest risk. Our current business operations within New Zealand have met local regulations required to mitigate conflict of interest issues. We have also established a Conflict-of-Interest Special Committee to ensure all regulatory obligations are met.

Custom clearance

A series of procedures required to obtain import/export permissions. The import/export agency needs to declare specified items such as freight item, quantity, price etc. to the relevant customs agency, plus undergo necessary inspections and payment of customs duties if importing.

Debt collection support service

This is a business to enable the collection of sales credits (accounts receivable) held by a New Zealand dealer for our group company Nichibo. Auto Advance Finance Limited is operating this business in our group.

Forwarder

Refers to an operator who commissions freight transportation by marine vessel, railway freight or truck via direct contract with the shipping agency. Under Japanese law, this operator is defined as a Consigned Freight Transportation Business Operator. They handle international transportation, customs clearance, preparation of transportation documents, storage and packing of cargo in distribution facilities through to delivery. In recent years, these operators are also required to provide high-value-added services such as inventory optimization and logistics computerization in addition to transporting cargo.

Heat Treatment facility

A facility for terminating harmful insects within vehicles by a high temperature process prior to export.
Our group company JEVIC Co Ltd have patented a process at facilities installed at each business site. The process applies a high temperature treatment to the automobile to exterminate any harmful insects. We also have patents in Australia and South Korea, and patents pending in other overseas countries.

Import vehicle inspection

A vehicle inspection based on the importing country’s regulations applied to all used car imports.

ISO/IEC17020 approval

ISO is an acronym for the International Organization for Standardization, a group that develops international standards excluding the fields of electrical and electronics.

IEC is an acronym for the International Electrotechnical Commission, a group that develops international standards in the electrical and electronic fields not handled by ISO.

ISO/IEC17020 defines the standards for the competence of inspection agencies covering both organisational standards.

Inspection reports (inspection certificates) of certification of ISO/IEC 17020 issued by inspection bodies denote a recognised level of reliability and authenticity.

Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier

Refers to a business that does not own a ship for transportation, but whose customer's cargo is transported by renting the ship's loading space, plus provision of supplemental services. NVOCC for short.

NVOCC

NVOCC acronym for Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (see above).

Pre-Shipment Inspection

An inspection of used cars exported from Japan prior to loading onto transport vessel. The inspection includes vehicle condition and quarantine regulations. These inspections are carried out with certification from the importing country.

Roadworthiness Inspection

An inspection that checks the age, structure, and mechanical operation of used cars in line with the safety standards and exhaust emission standards of importing countries.

Shipping space

Generally, it denotes the space for loading cargo in a cargo vessel. Specifically for our group, it refers to the space in a car carrier vessel where cars are loaded.

Dolphin Shipping New Zealand Limited and Dolphin Shipping Australia Pty Ltd are the operating companies in our group that rent cargo space from an external carrier.

Value Chain

The series of end-to-end services such as purchasing, inspection, transportation, sales and maintenance related to used car importation with our group is called our Optimus Value Chain. The value chain also includes supplementary services such as loan financing and post purchase maintenance.
